A diferencia de los demás periódicos británicos que se centran en asuntos como la resistencia en Irak o la niebla en el aeropuerto de Heathrow, The Independent se desmarca (por algo se llama "El independiente") y dedica su portada al cambio climático.
Concretamente el artículo de portada aborda el hecho que los "osos marrones" que habitan en las montaña de Cantabria en estas fechas del año deberían estar hibernando, pero no sucede así, sino que aún están deambulando por las montañas cual primavera cualquiera. Al parecer en esta época del año normalmente los osos disminuyen la actividad de su cuerpo al mínimo, debido a que al hacer mucho frío les cuesta mucho trabajo conseguir comida. Y según Guillermo Palomero (aunque experto en osos, je, je) "si el invierno es cálido la osa tiene energías para estar despierta e incluso salir a buscar comida", y eso es lo que está sucediendo. Normalmente es muy difícil verlos por las montañas, pero a un grupo de observadores les ha resultado muy fácil seguir su rastro.
Este no es más que un claro ejemplo de que el clima está cambiando, aunque muchos se nieguen a reconocerlo, o por lo menos a no relacionar tan directamente el cambio climático a las emisiones de CO2 u otros gases.
No sé por la montañas de Cantabria, pero aquí (en el sur de España) hoy hace un frío que pela, y según he leído acaba de entrar el famoso frío siberiano que ultimamente nos visita tanto, y digo yo, ¿no ha llegado ese frío al norte de España? Se supone que el frío viene de Siberia, que está en el norte y no del sur ¿no? ¿O es que con tanto cambio climático ya el frío no viene de Siberia sino que viene del Caribe? A este tiempo no hay quién lo entienda, de verdad. Aunque hay algunos que no necesitan un invierno muy frío para hibernar, es más muchos están hibernando todo el año, nunca se sabe lo que el clima puede deparar...
