Dicen que la felicidad no se busca, sino que se encuentra. Pero ¿dónde? Esa es la cuestión. ¿Dónde encontrar la verdadera felicidad? ¿Se encuentra ascendiendo de escala social? ¿Dándo a nuestra familia unas comodidades que el sistema les niega? Está claro que para el protagonista de esta película, ahí es dónde está la felicidad. El gran sueño americano siempre nos ha vendido que el hombre encuentra el climax de su felicidad adquiriendo más poder económico, ascendiendo socialmente, y si eso no te hace feliz por lo menos tienes dinero para comprar lo que quieras, y no me dirás que tampoco eres feliz con eso, inconformista...
Normalmente las personas que se esfuerzan tanto por conseguir ese sueño me provocan lástima, sí lástima, porque se ven tan vacías, sus vidas carecen de absoluto sentido, excepto por aquello que luchan. Y no es menos en esta película, nuestro protagonisa, un inmenso Will Smith, no se esfuerza porque su familia sea feliz, o por salvar su matrimonio, sólo está obsesionado por conseguir un nivel económico alto, pobre ciego que no se da cuenta que la felicidad está frente suya y no la ve. Y por mucho que en la película nos vendan a ese hombre cómo un padre sufridor, adornándolo con canciones emotivas o escenas dónde aparece estudiando a la luz del alba que entra por la ventana de un albergue, su motivo es cuanto menos vacío y carente de sentido.
Y si a eso le añadimos que la búsqueda de esa supuesta felicidad se hace larga y tediosa para el espectador, estaríamos hablando de uno de los mayores tostones en mucho tiempo. Pero hay un resquicio de esperanza, un pequeño rayo de luz, y es que el protagonista se da cuenta que puede ser feliz a pesar de no tener dónde dormir, respresentado en la escena en la que da rienda suelta a la imaginación con su hijo en el metro, a falta de dinero, la imaginación es la mejor aliada. Y si bien parece que la película a partir de ese momento va a ir por cauces diferentes, vuelve otra vez a lo mismo, erre que erre.
Aunque es de agradecer que al estar dirigida por un director italiano, autor de la maravillosa El último beso, sus formas sean un poco más suaves y menos descaradas que en otras ocasiones, el trasfondo sigue siendo el mismo. Felicidad = dinero y que hay que luchar por nuestros sueños sean cuales sean o cuesten lo que cuesten.
En definitiva, la película no es más que un producto comercial dirigido a fomentar el sueño americano, dirigido por un director italiano para suavizar las formas pero no la temática, pero en la que destaca la actuación de Will Smith, dónde por primera vez se le ve maduro y con escenas de emoción contenida, que son las más complicadas de representar.
Mi valoración: 4,5

Al final se dice que el protagonista logró montar su empresa y la vendió por una suma impresionante de dinero, pero ¿fue realmente feliz? Lo dudo mucho.
